Betsy Beers, MD

Dr. Betsy Beers was born in the Finger Lakes Region of western New York State. After graduating Salutatorian from Geneseo Central High School, she attended the State University of New York at Geneseo earning a Bachelor's degree in biology with honors in three years. She came to Gainesville in 1978 to study medical physiology completing a Master's degree at the University of Florida in 1980.

Dr. Betsy Beers graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1985 and completed Dermatology Residency Training at the University of Minnesota in 1989. She received special certification in Dermatopathology, also at the University of Minnesota in 1990. After serving as a faculty member at the University of Florida, she entered private practice in Gainesville, Florida in 1994. She practices general dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and dermatopathology with a special interest in skin cancer and laser therapy.

Dr. Beers is the author of 17 articles in scientific journals and has lectured at local, state, and national medical meetings. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology with special certification in dermatopathology. She maintains licensure in the state of Florida. She is a Courtesy Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida, and maintains membership in multiple professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, The Florida Medical Association, Alachua County Medical Society, American Society of Dermatopathology and Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery where she served on the Board of Directors for six years. Dr. Beers has been Secretary/ Treasurer of the Gainesville Dermatological Society since 1996 and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the University of Florida College of Medicine Alumni Association.



Tara Ezzell, MD

Dr. Ezzell was born and raised in Ormond Beach, Florida. After graduating Salutatorian from Seabreeze High School, she continued her education at Emory University, where she achieved the Dean’s list each semester and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society as a Junior. She graduated in 1999 magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and minors in Religion and French.

She returned to her home state attending the University of Florida College of Medicine. Her academic excellence continued; Dr. Ezzell was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the preeminent medical honor society and she graduated from the University with academic honors in 2002.

Now a true gator and married to a Gainesville native, Dr. Ezzell chose to remain in Gainesville for her residency. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Shands Hospital. Her residency in dermatology and cutaneous surgery was also completed at Shands where she served as chief resident in her final year.

Making Gainesville her home, Dr. Ezzell joined Dr. Betsy Beers in private practice in 2007. When she is not seeing patients at Dermatology Associates, she is busy with her two young boys and many efforts in the community. Dr. Ezzell is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Alachua County Medical Society, American Society for Mohs Surgery, Junior League of Gainesville and attends Queen of Peace Parish.

 

Susan Marchand, PA-C

Mrs. Marchand was born in Japan into a US military family. Moving frequently while growing up, she experienced many different cultures and situations within the United States and abroad. After graduating with honors from Balboa High School in Balboa, Panama Canal Zone, she moved to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science on Zoology.


Deciding to make Gainesville her home, Mrs. Marchand spent the next 20 years working at the
University of Florida where she participated in research projects in developmental zoology, veterinary opthalmology, physiology and pharmacology and gastroenterology. She co-authored several peer-reveiwed article and assisted as a photographer and illustrator in the publication of two textbooks.

After marrying a Gainesville native and three children, Mrs. Marchand embarked upon a career change. She entered the University of Florida Physician Assistant Program and graduated in 1999 with a Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies, achieving the Outstanding Didactic Student Award. She is credentialed by the NCCPA as a PA-C.

Mrs. Marchand joined Dr. Betsy Beers in 1999. She is a member of the Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She enjoys spending time with her adult children, needle crafts and photography and she volunteers with Christian Family Services, a crisis pregnancy counseling and adoption agency.


Robyn Balkin, PA-C

Robyn Balkin was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After graduating from Killian High School, she attended the University of Florida where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.  She returned to Miami to attend Barry University's physician assistant program. She graduated cum laude in 2001 with a Masters degree in Clinical Medical Science.

Robyn worked in a dermatology practice in Clearwater, Florida for over 12 years. She joined Dermatology Associates in 2014 and is thrilled to be back in Gainesville.

She is a member of the Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and Floridas Academy of Physician Assistants.

She loves spending time with her family enjoying all of the outdoor activities that Gainesville has to offer.
